One last snowflake

One last snowflake card from my December Card class.  For the center of this one, I used one of our clear buttons, “painted” the back side with Stardust Glitz Glitter gel and then when it was dry, attached it to the center with a glue dot.

The clear buttons are in the “while supplies last” section of my website.  I have also used liquid glass to adhere a piece of paper behind the clear button when I needed something to coordinate with a project.  I love their versatility.  Order them while you can!

Life is Good

I was looking back at my photos and realized there is a group of artwork that I never shared with you!

I created a set of Clementine cards using the patterns from the Clementine Workshop on the Go bonus project.  Instead of stamping the flower images, I used the Cottage Assortment fabric flowers and then stamp my sentiments.  I love how they turned out.

FYI, this last one felt like it had too much white space so when I taught my class, I added the mini floral print from the paper and it brightened it up just right!

Do you like a White Christmas?

Some years I long for a white Christmas.  This year, not so much.  Maybe it is because we have lots of traveling to do.  But I do love to celebrate the shimmer of snow with glitter!

Here’s another snowflake card that we made in the card class this week.

Barn Star Addict!

If you have ever been in my house, you know that I love barn stars.  They grace my walls in all different sizes, most of them the "traditional" rusty brown color.  Close to My Heart came out the with My Creations Star this fall and I love it!  The option to easily decorate the star with paper, stamps, and embellishments makes this items affordable and versatile.  Here is my Christmas Star covered with Pear & Partridge Paper and the pointsettia was made by cutting multiple sizes of snowflakes from the Art Philosophy Cricut Cartridge and layering them together.  Close to My Heart has provided a template for cutting the paper as well.  How would you decorate your star?

Horse Crazy!

That would be my daughter!  This year she had the opportunity to show her horse in the Evergreen State Fair.  It was a great experience and she did a fantastic job trying events that she doesn’t usually do and adding her love of jumping to the show!

The Dakota paper packet was perfect for these photos.  I really had fun with the wood grain paper and love how it shows off the barn feeling.  I used the round metal studs and corrugated Milepost shapes (these will be retiring 1/31/31 so order yours while they are still available) to carry out the theme.  I scrapped these pages with a smile on my face, remembering the great season we had at the fair.

The “Horse Crazy” lettering and other titles are stamped from the Old World Alphabet.  It matched the original sign that I was adapting for my title.  (Wild horse feathers website)  And it is true…a horse crazy girl will be more than happy to clean a stall than her room.

Happy Thanksgiving! Here’s a little turkey for you!

Closetomyheart-CTMH-Artiste-Turkey-face

Last week I shared a similar turkey on my Facebook page.  It was created by Arsty Heather using the Artiste Cricut Cartridge.  I used Heather’s instructions and a few of my architectural skills and created this guy to sit on the table for Thanksgiving.

Here’s how I made it.

Cut the turkey at 5 1/2 inches in chocolate brown.  (I would suggest cutting 2-3 and layering them for more stability.)  Cut 10 1 1/2 inch circles from the chocolate brown.  I also added a 5 inch chocolate circle for the base.

Cut the rosettes on page 50 <card> in the following dimensions

  • 2 1/2” in goldrush, cut 2 (back “feathers”)
  • 2 1/4” in desert sand, cut 2
  • 2” in crème brulee, cut 2
  • 1 3/4” in olive green, cut 2
  • 1” in autumn terracotta, cut 1 (for the wattle)

Assembly:

Accordion fold all the rosettes.  Lay the turkey flat on the table and start with the goldrush feathers and glue the first “tab” on the turkey, just in front of the first circle cut on his tail.  Fan open the rosettes and glue the last “tab” on the bottom of the turkey.  Place carefully so the “feather” tip is not sticking off the turkey’s body.  This will interfere with his stability.  Then, just in front of the goldrush “feathers”, glue the desert sand “tab” next to but not overlapping the goldrush “feathers”.  Continue in descending size order on both sides.  I found using liquid glass with clothes pins to hold the “feather” until it is dry works but for speedier assembly, you can use hot glue.

Fold all the small chocolate brown circles in half.  Glue one half of the circle to one half of the next until you have 5 glued together.  Repeat for side two.  Then attach to the body of the turkey creating a “round” body.

Cut two pieces of the autumn terracotta rosette to use as the wattle and attach just below the beak.  Use an mocha opaque pearl for the eyes.

For stability, I cut a 3 1/2 slit in the center of my 5 inch circle and put his foot and edge of tail through.  If you use the layered turkey (gluing 2-3 bodies together) you may not need this.

Clear as mud!  Happy Feathering of the Turkey!  AND

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone.

Simple Technique, Big Wow! Masking

I remember learning this at my very first Close to My Heart (it was DOTS then) gathering.  I was amazed at how simple it really is and what a great effect you get with just a couple of post it notes added to your regular stamping products.  I use this technique almost every time I am creating…it makes my stamp sets very versatile.

Not gone for good!

The end of October was something else!  I am still recovering from being sick for almost two weeks.  It really put a stop to my regular activities.  I am hoping for a typical November!

So I missed sharing the October stamp of the month with you.  Here is a card that was made using the Avonlea paper pack, “A Very Merry Christmas”, and the shimmer tape.  LOVE that shimmer tape.  The stamp set has several images that are cut using the Artiste Cricut Cartridge

If you want an October stamp of the month, I have a couple of extra and will sell them first come, first serve.  Contact me to get yours.

Alcohol Marker Madness

Close to my Heart introduced its new line of alcohol markers this past summer and although I have been a bit slow to try them, I can say, I love them.  Coloring can be very therapeutic and child-like but with regular markers I felt like I couldn’t get that even color that the “artist” in me wanted.  Well, now I have a solution.  Take a look at some of the artwork I have done in my playtime and then the video that shows more details how to use the markers.

This “experiment” was inspired by the talented Lisa Stenz.  I heat embossed the flowers on Cotton Candy paper and then colored with Cotton Candy markers.  You can see that the lower left is colored and the other two are not.  The card below shows them all colored.

LOVE banner

One of my favorite things to make right now are banners.  I love the look of them hanging in different places, expressing different sentiments, and just changing the feeling of the room where they are displayed.

Well, I made one for my niece and I LOVE how it turned out too!

I used the My Creations Banner as the background and adhered burlap to each piece.  Then I cut the letters the size I wanted on the Cricut and used the “negative” as a stencil.  I then used our Create a Shade pearl paint to stencil in the letters.  This took a couple of coats to get it to look as solid as I wanted.  After they dried, I added our Color-Ready Seam Binding Ribbon that I had pleated to the top edge.  Finally, I tied it all together with Natural Hemp

Did you know that you can add reinker to the Create a Shade pearl paint to make it any color you want?  You can also use the reinker to dye the Color-Ready Seam Binding Ribbon.  The color coordination possibilities are endless.

The banner looked great hanging over the drink table at the shower. (But I forgot to take a photo of it!)

More party decorations

If you have been following along the past couple of posts, I have been sharing party/shower planning ideas that I used recently for a bridal shower.
Here are some additional decorations I created with the Artiste Cricut Cartridge.
003
I took a string of white lights and decorated them in the theme colors.  I tied dark purple tulle in between the lights and then “covered” the lights with a small doily shape cut using the Artiste Cricut cartridge.  I used a craft knife to cut an “X” in the middle of each doily and then pushed the light through.  I also used the Glitz Glitter Gel to add a little sparkle.
006
This shows the detail of the individual light and cut.
013
Again, I used the Artiste Cartridge and made small boxes, and then cut a different doily shape and layered the colors with the monogram stamp.  Did you know these monogram stamps are only $2.95 and they can be used in so many different ways.  I am looking forward to creating some personalized stationery with them soon.
I have one more post to show from my shower decorations.  I would love to hear about how you use the Cricut to decorate for an event!

The Bridal Shower

002
My niece got married last week and the week before I was honored to host a bridal shower for her.  It was so much fun to make my Pinterest ideas come alive with Close to My Heart products.
Her colors were a dark purple, light purple and yellow…or in CTMH lingo, pansy purple, amethyst and buttercup!
I made this monogram using the paper flowers cut at 2 and 3 inches on the Artiste Cricut Cartridge.  I then inked the edges, rolled them and secured them to the base with liquid glass and filled the center with with the glitz glitter gel.  I got the frame and the thrift store and it was already nicely “antiqued”.  I glued burlap to chip board and a large “E” template to the burlap, cut in the same color.  I then used hot glue to attach the individual roses. I loved how it turned out and so did she!
007

More party, or in this case, shower decorations to follow.
